MORE INFORMATION:
On your way you'll see first hand remnants of Conrad. On the west
side of Windy Arm, on Tagish Lake. Colonel John Howard CONRAD
organized this settlement as an intended supply base for his operations.
By 1909 it was a thriving town, with stores, hotels, churches
and a District Mining Recorder. Steamboats ran schedules between
here and Carcross.
The ore was in several mines; The Big Thing, Montana, Joe Petty,
Aurora, Venus, all operated under CONRAD Consolidates Mines Ltd.
However, extensive work showed an erratic nature to the ore bodies.
By 1914, with a drop in the world price of silver, the mines shut
down and the town was abandoned.
